Livening up your office space can go a long way toward helping you have a good attitude at work. In fact, studies show that people with personalized workspaces perform better, are more motivated, and experience a higher level of overall well-being. And since most of us spend the majority of our waking hours in the office, it’s best to do everything we can to make it a pleasant place to be. Even if you don’t think you have a keen eye for design, there are a lot of things you can do to liven up your space. Here are a few to get you started.

Get organized

Organization is key to keeping your space clean and freeing up your mental energy, but it doesn’t have to be boring. You can choose boxes and other trendy storage solutions in colors and designs of your choice. Try picking a color theme and buy supplies in those colors, but with varying shapes and designs. Also, try to label everything so that you can keep all your paperwork and supplies in their appropriate spots.

Spruce up your filing cabinets

Filing cabinets might be the most boring pieces of furniture you’ll find in an office space, but they don’t have to be. Add magnetized art or vinyl decals to them and your other metal surfaces to brighten them up a little. You can usually find intricate florals, quotes, and many other shapes and designs at your local hobby store or online.

Personalize it

Order some personalized office products like pens and letterhead from an online store like Mines Press to really make the space your own. Use your own name with your company logo or create your own brand. You can even get a sense of individuality for your space by personalizing your sticky notes and pens.

Add plants

Decorating with plants is a great way to add a sense of warmth and freshness to our surroundings. They also purify the air we breathe by removing up to 87 percent of the toxins it contains. But aside from even the health aspects of plants, many people use them to boost productivity, concentration, and moods, along with reducing stress. Just be sure to choose plants that don’t require a lot of natural light, such as aloe vera, English ivy, Boston fern, or peace lily.

Light it up

The harsh fluorescents of the overhead lights can be unflattering and uninspiring. But you can soften the effects by adding small lamps or accent lighting to your shelves or desk space. You’ll find a variety of cute options at local retail stores, or you can shop for something more vintage or unique at thrift stores and yard sales.

Dress up your walls

Even if you work in a cubicle, you can dress up your walls to reflect a little of your personality. You can even create art from family or nature photos by turning them into canvas prints in any size you need. Use pieces that make you feel good, but try not to clutter your space with too many different types of hangings. Stick will all canvas or all frames for the most uniform look.

Add textiles

One of the easiest and most noticeable ways to transform your space is by adding textiles. This can be in the way of a colorful throw rug or a fluffy pillow. Aim to stick with your color scheme, but you can definitely get more playful with design for removable decor like this. This is also an inexpensive design hack since you can pick up entry rugs at your local retail store for just a few bucks.

Your workspace may seem dull, but it doesn’t have to be. Consider these easy and affordable tips to liven up your office area.
